New AFL-CIO National Leadership Travel to Ohio, Atlanta, New York City and Pittsburgh
September 18, 2009

Will Stand With Working Families to Fight for Jobs, Health Care and Financial Reform

(Washington, DC) – Today, the newly elected leadership of the AFL-CIO – President Richard Trumka, Secretary Treasurer Liz Shuler and Executive Vice President Arlene Holt Baker – embarked on a post-convention tour to stand with working families to fight for jobs, health care and financial reform.

The tour began today in Cleveland, OH where all three officers held a press event with workers who lost their jobs as factories closed and discussed the future of green jobs and technologies.  The officers fanned out across the state to meet with students, union members, community activists and public officials.

The tour continues Sunday and Monday in Atlanta including a rally outside Wachovia where President Trumka will condemn its predatory financial practices, including foreclosures.

On Monday night and Tuesday the officers will be in New York City including a press conference where President Trumka will issue a strong warning to Wall Street at a press conference outside the New York Stock Exchange.  President Trumka will call on Congress to pass strong financial reform legislation and control runaway executive pay.

Tuesday afternoon Executive President Holt Baker will participate in a health care day of Action in Philadelphia.

Finally, all of the officers will head to Pittsburgh for the G20 meeting to ensure that the voices of working families are represented.

This tour is just the beginning of a long campaign to rebuild the American labor movement and lead a broad progressive social movement to Turn America Around and restore hope to America's working families and future generations.
